Deep Brain Reorienting Therapy
Deep Brain Reorienting Therapy was developed by Dr. Frank Corrigan, a psychiatrist from Scotland. It is a transformative and innovative trauma therapy that focuses on the mid-brain structures to target and resolve shock responses that are often stored by the brain outside of conscious awareness.
"Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) aims to access the core of the traumatic experience in a way which tracks the original physiological sequence in the brainstem, the part of the brain which is rapidly online in situations of danger or attachment disruption. There may be threat and attachment wounding together when, for example, an experience of abandonment in infancy activates age-appropriate fears for survival." (www.deepbrainreorienting.com)
Much of the therapeutic experience for clients that undergo DBR Therapy is centered around noticing physical tension in designated areas of the body. This differs greatly from traditional talk therapy and affects the brain/body in a way that can allow for release of pre-affective shock experiences.
