About Me

Shawn Marie Towle, LCSW

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Texas and have worked as a Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist for over 20 years. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. In 1997 I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of Texas at San Antonio.  I then moved to Austin and obtained my Master of Science degree in Social Work in 2002 from the University of Texas.

I have years of experience working with children and families as a psychotherapist and have also been able to utilize my clinical skills in a variety of other settings, including the San Antonio State Hospital, Child Protective Services, Communities In School, Utilization Management roles, and as a Complex Case Manager.  Working in these different areas has given me a more robust view that helps me treat my clients from a client centered orientation within a systems perspective.

I have extensive experience working with children, adults and families involved with the Child Protective Services system, affording me the opportunity to specialize in grief, loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, attachment, coping with life changes and self-esteem issues.    I have been introduced to these individuals at the one of the most painful and stressful points in their lives.  I am honored to have been present with my clients to share in soul shaking moments, and subtle shifts that have led to profound changes.  I truly love what I do!

My passion is Play Therapy, working with young children who may not yet have the verbal skills to express themselves or process their worries.  Other approaches include: Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy.  I am excited to also incorporate EMDR into my practice with clients of all ages.
